Foothill Children's Chorus, a community children’s choir, is now scheduling auditions for the 2010/2011 season for children in grades 1-8. BBQ Battle for United Way. The United Way of Nevada County's 4th Annual BBQ Battle is coming up. It will be held Thursday, August 26th  at 5pm in downtown Grass Valley at the Gold Miner Inn. There will be some great raffle prizes; including a Hawaiian vacation getaway, and live music performed by SOLS. Cool off under a tent of misting hoses while you enjoy the music and great food. Dylan Rodrigue Concert. Enjoy some great music and wish local musician Dylan Rodrigue farewell in his final concert and tuition fundraiser on Friday Aug. 27th at 7:00pm at the Summit Space at Sierra Mountain Coffee Roasters (671 Maltman Drive, Grass Valley). Performers will include Dylan’s three bands, The Shreds, Of Wheel & Water, and Seamsplit. He will also perform with an amazing array of local talent: The Moore Brothers, The Devil's Train, Doug Rice, Dear Indugu, The Shaking Hands and more. This event will be a fundraiser to help Dylan pay his tuition at the Calif. Institute of the Arts (CalArts), where he begins his Music studies in September. Legendary R&B, Soul and 2009 Grammy Winner for “Respect Yourself” songstress, Mavis Staples, will perform at the Nevada County Land Trust's 9th annual popular benefit concert on Saturday, August 28th at 7:30pm, festivities begin at 4pm. Bring a lawn chair and picnic or purchase great food, wine, beverages and more from vendors on-hand. Local rhythm and blues vocalist Lorraine Gervais and the Burning Sensations Band will open the night's concert and celebration of the Land Trust's 20th anniversary. This year's concert will premiere at its 'new home' on the historic site of the 1906 North Star House designed by Julia Morgan and will be open for tours. Is NC Really a Ghost Town?
You can learn all about Nevada City’s ghosts from tour guide Mark Lyon, who leads Nevada City Ghost Tours on Saturday evenings through October. The walking tours depart from 101 Boulder Street (the corner of Broad, Boulder and Nevada streets) at 7:30 p.m. The adventure is $10 for adults and $5 for young people 12 and under. Ages 5 and under are free. Call 265-6877.
